The Hooker County Commissioners are asking for input from the public regarding the Hooker County airstrip.

The commissioners are trying to determine the need for the airstrip versus the cost.

Hooker County has not had an airport authority since prior to 2012.

The average cost per year for the airstrip is between $6,700-8,700, with insurance being $3,700 and crack sealing

There are currently no registered airplanes in Hooker County. There are three han-hangars are improvements on leased land, meaning taxes are paid for the structure, but not the land. Hooker County owns the land.

The commissioners are considering an annual lease fee for the hangers, or wondering if those who use the airstrip would have interest in paying for the upkeep of the airstrip.

The airstrip has been used for EMS helicopter landing, but they wouldn’t need the whole strip to continue this use.

Contact Hooker County Commissioners Bryan Crisp, Thad Emerson or Julie Kraye with your thoughts. The airstrip will be discussed at the next commissioners’ meeting this Thursday, May 9 at 3:30 p.m. at the Hooker County Courthouse.
